Letter of Inquiry

December 1st, 2014

Lynnette Lockwood
PR Chair for Little Angels of Honduras Club
221 Peet Hall
Alfred, NY 14802

Dear Dr. Douglass:

I am Lynnette Lockwood and I would like to introduce the Little Angels of Honduras Organization. I am submitting the letter of inquiry to determine your interest in receiving a full proposal for a grant of $500 to support this amazing organization. Your generous gift will help to improve the health conditions in Honduras and fund supplies for the hospital. Simple donations such as antibacterial gel, soap, newborn hats, gloves, baby clothes, bottles, diapers, and wipes help the organization out a lot because they don’t have the technology that the United States has and helps save babies lives a lot more. I would run a supply drive to go along with the grant.

The need for these services is important.  In Honduras, 40% of newborn babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) die on a daily basis from preventable deaths. These deaths are caused by infections due to the lack of adequate sanitation. 56% of the babies die daily waiting for space to become available in the NICU. The Little Angels of Honduras Club is an organization that was formed recently that strives to reduce the infant mortality rate in Honduras by assisting with the provision of optimal conditions for pregnancy, birth, and newborn care. The strategy that the organization follows has four parts: provide, support, engage, and construct. Provide is assisting with immediate needs in hospitals. Support is national education and policy change about the issue. Engage is reducing the number of high-risk teenage pregnancies. Construct involves building a new maternal and infant care hospital. The vision of this organization is to give generations of parents the gift of hope and the ability to take their babies home.
To address these needs I will get for money to buy supplies for the Little Angels of Honduras. Simple donations such as antibacterial gel, soap, newborn hats, gloves, baby clothes, bottles, diapers, and wipes help the organization out a lot because they don’t have the technology that the United States has and helps save babies lives a lot more. I would run a supply drive too to go along with the grant.

To fulfill these goals I need to advocate and buy supplies. Supplies would include the ink to print posters about the drive that will go along with the supplies I will buy with your donation, t-shirts to sell to Alfred State College students in support of the effort. The money would go toward buying supplies to fund fundraisers to get the word out about the issue.

To achieve these objectives I will get support with the help of the Little Angels Club on Alfred State campus. Lynnette Lockwood – PR Chair for Little Angles for Honduras Club at Alfred State.  Ashley Ebel –started the Little Angles for Honduras Club at Alfred State.  Nickie Hockenberry and Christian Perry – Advisors for the club and who I would give the donations to.

The cost approximately $2,000

If you have any questions or wish to receive a full proposal please feel free to contact me at (920) 276-1144 or lockwoln@alfredstate.edu. I deeply appreciate your consideration of my request and look forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely,

Lynnette Lockwood
Proposal Summary

Purpose of your agency: In Honduras, 40% of newborn babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) die on a daily basis from preventable deaths. These deaths are caused by infections due to the lack of adequate sanitation. 56% of the babies die daily waiting for space to become available in the NICU. Support is national education and policy change about the issue. Engage is reducing the number of high-risk teenage pregnancies. Construct involves building a new maternal and infant care hospital. The vision of this organization is to give generations of parents the gift of hope and the ability to take their babies home.
Why your agency is requesting this grant, what outcomes you hope to achieve, and how you will spend the funds if a grant is made: The Little Angles organization would like your help in getting $500 to get supplies for the hospital. Simple donations such as antibacterial gel, soap, newborn hats, gloves, baby clothes, bottles, diapers, and wipes help the organization out a lot because they don’t have the technology that the United States has and helps save babies lives a lot more. I would run a supply drive to go along with the grant.

Background
Mission: It is the mission of Little Angels of Honduras (LAH) to reduce infant mortality in Honduras by assisting with the provision of optimal conditions for pregnancy, birth and newborn care. LAH is a publicly funded entity that provides assistance toward immediate needs in Honduras’ large public hospitals, supports national education and perinatal policy change, and seeks to construct a new maternal-infant care hospital specializing in high risk pregnancies and newborns needing medical intervention. The Little Angels of Honduras is an organization that was formed recently that strives to reduce the infant mortality rate in Honduras by assisting with the provision of optimal conditions for pregnancy, birth, and newborn care. The strategy that the organization follows has four parts. Provide, support, engage, and construct. Provide is assisting with immediate needs in hospitals. Support is national education and policy change about the issue. Engage is reducing the number of high-risk teenage pregnancies. Construct involves building a new maternal and infant care hospital. The vision of the organization is to give generations of parents the gift of hope and the ability to take their babies home.
Problem: In Honduras the 40% of the newborn babies in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) die on a daily basis from preventable deaths. The deaths are caused by infections. This is due to the lack of adequate sanitation. 56% of the babies die on a daily basis waiting for space to open up in the NICU.

Simple donations such as antibacterial gel, soap, newborn hats, gloves, baby clothes, bottles, diapers, and wipes help the organization out a lot because they don’t have the technology that the United States has and helps save babies lives a lot more. The money would go toward buying supplies to fund fundraisers to get the word out about the issue.
Total Funding Request $2,000

Budget
T-shirts 50 x 15 = $750
Posters and ink $100
Baby clothes/hats/diapers/bottles/antibacterial gel/gloves $350

Evaluation
The evaluation of the project would come from the response of the hospital that I send the supplies to in Honduras. The project will be successful regardless because the hospital will be grateful and the infant mortality rate will decrease.
